Ike, Ike Baby

Hello friends.
I hope all of you survived the hurricane with minimal damage and possibly power? If you are still without power, we are praying for you. The store has some water damage but it could have been much worse. We are working diligently to get things back to normal. Fortunately, we have not lost any product!

We certainly aren't looking very cute with damaged ceiling tiles and a warping floor but we are here non the less. Please call the store to see when we are open. As for today, I will be here until about 1:00 pm. Wednesday, we will run hours from 10 am - 1 pm (possibly longer if insurance and landlord doesn't ask us to close for repair reasons).

If all goes well, we will be open on Thursday from 10 am - 6 pm and on Friday from 10 am - 8 pm. As of now, we will still hold our Recipe Swap Social Saturday morning from 10 - 11 am. If a number of people cancel, we will move the date. The beginners layout class from 1 - 2:30 will still be held. Sunday, Sept. 21 will be our first monthly Kids Crop Club. We are adjusting the weekend so as to accomodate ScrapPink next weekend!

There are still a few spots available and the deal is even sweeter. $75 will get you Friday night crop from 6 pm - 2 am; Saturday crop from 8 am - 6 pm; and Sunday crop from noon - 4; Pappasito's dinner on Friday, breakfast and lunch on Saturday and lunch on Sunday; T-shirt; goody bag and entry into our door prize drawings. Don't forget the most important part....a portion of the proceeds goes to benefit the Susan G. Komen Foundation!

Call for more information.
Hope all of you are safe. We look forward to hearing how you "weathered" the storm.

Lots of Stuff

Wow, can you believe we are hearing about the 6th huricane of the season. Let's just hope and pray it doesn't spoil all our weekend fun! This weekend, we celebrate the 1 year anniversary of the store. What a roller coaster ride it has been. We hope you drop by to celebrate with us Friday evening or Saturday and show your support not only for the store but also for the Susan G. Komen Foundation. During our first annual ScrapPink event, 10% of all proceeds will be donated to the foundation. There are just a couple spots left for the actual crop...call the store today if you are interested.

As far as the rest of the fall goes, we have some great classes lined up! On Sat., Sept. 27 from 1-3 pm, attendees will have the chance to make a Jacob's Ladder book. This is an advanced class and space is limited. While the picture attached does not represent the actual papers being used, it does give you an idea of how many wonderful embellishments and techniques you will get to expreience.

The Kid's Crop Club is beginning this month. This is a great opportunity for you to work on your scrapping projects with your children and if your not sure WHAT to do with them, we will help give you ideas. The event is to be held the last Sunday of each month from noon - 4 pm; cost is just $5 per child (adults with children are free); snacks are provided; sign up early as space is limited. They even get to experience a MAKE-N-TAKE!

Don't forget to stop by Friday between 6 and 9 pm and Saturday between 10 am and 6 pm to enjoy a slice of celebration cake! Hope to see you there :)

Back to School

School's back in session ~ aren't you glad? Boy, I am! Love my kids, but three ENTIRE months at home with nothing specific to do kept me anxious and pretty beat by the end of the day. So, here I am... at the store...NO kids! whoo hoo! Just swept the floor and now I'm pricing these cute paper flowers from Bazzill; great colors!

Whew! What a fun day! It went by so fast! Thought I'd get back to blogging; maybe tomorrow.

By the way, this is my first attempt. How am I doing?

Check This Out

OK - we are entering the Melissa Frances Altered Bra contest at CHA this weekend. Here is one of our creations. We figured everyone would be going "pink" so we decided to play off the "affair" in our store name and created this masterpiece (although, the picture doesn't do it justice). We must send a big THANK YOU to The Bra Specialist in Sugar Land for donating the bustier (it's French and I don't know if this spelling is correct) for our creation.

So now that you have seen it done, can you take the challenge? Submit your altered bra between now and September 12 to be entered into our "ScrapPink" contest. The winner will receive a $75 gift card from The Bra Specialist. Not inspired yet, check out our other samples in the store.
Several of our designers have started blogging and they are great at it! Check out Connie's blog or Carolyn's Blog! Way to go guys!!!!

Hey guys...we have several new team members on our design team!

Between Connie and Carolyn, they are a wealth of knowledge and available most Friday evenings at the store.
Bridget Eckhardt ~ woman extraordinaire! Bridget has is very talented at spotlighting wonderful candid shots. She loves to put a number of pictures on her layouts and incorporate different shapes to give a layout character. Bridget has two young children and oversees a wide variety of activities. She has much to offer to those who want to learn.

Other members of our design team include: Alicia Merrifield, Debbie O'Neal, and Karen Carr. We are always looking for people who want to help out on the team. We will be introducing several other members in the future!

Can you say SUMMER?

Well, we can, and we are ready to celebrate it IN style! And here are just a few things that we have happening in June!

June Blog Challenge:
Summer… It is definitely a word with meaning… but what exactly does it mean to you? Is it time for family vacations, is it time away from the classroom, is it time for the beach, waves, and sand?

Share with us what summer is to you. Create a mini-album or layout (8X8) or larger that shares what summer means. Anything goes as long as summer is the general theme behind the project! Bring in your layout or project to the store before June 30, 2008, for a chance to win a $15 A Scrap Affair gift certificate. All projects will be returned.

Recipe Swap:
I don't know about you, but summer is H-O-T! What better way to cool off than with a new recipe? Wanna share that recipe and end up with a nice little recipe book to boot? Join A Scrap Affair's first ever recipe swap. Make sure to call the store to sign up and let us know what recipe you will be doing. We don't want to have any duplicates. We are shooting for ten participants. If more wish to sign up, we will start another group.

All recipes need to be submitted as 6X6 in size. Make sure to include the name of the recipe, the ingredients, and any written directions. Then use your scrappy style and scrap those recipes. You will need to make TEN identical recipe cards. Bring them into the store before June 30, 2008. At that time, we will swap out all the recipes and you will have your recipe plus nine other new recipe cards.

We will have samples in the store if you need further directions.

Participants:

1. Meredith W. ~ Guacomole
2. Alicia M. ~ Summer Chill (frozen pie)
3. Sally C. ~ Banana Split Cake
4. Karen C. ~ Eclairs
5. Bridget E. ~ Fried Rice
6. Linda S. ~ Corn Casserole

Design Team Call:
We are looking for a few new faces to become the design team for the store. Are you interested? Stop by the store to pick up an application and a kit and all the pertinent information! We will be debuting the new team at Scrap A Ganza on the 28th. Make sure to stop by the booth and check them out.

Interested in any or all the above, stop by or call the store 281.240.2006 and either Meredith or Alicia will be happy to get you started.

Newsletter Anyone?

So, it is May 1st and you haven't yet received a newsletter. HMMM wonder what has happened. Well, I am sending one last newsletter out today. However, with this handy new "blog" device, there really isn't a continued need for a newsletter. We are streamlining all the communication to be located on this blog and the website. Tell your friends to join us...we will have a great time on this blog!

May Challenge

OK guys...now is your chance to get excited. April showers bring May flowers, right? Well, this months challenge is all about the flowers. There's no sketch, just one simple criteria ~ you must use flowers; flowers on the paper; as an embellishment; as a sticker; in the pictures...you name it, your layout just needs to have flowers. You don't have to do all of the above but be creative. Think of ways to use all those extra flower scraps laying around that are an off the wall color.

To help you out, check out our calendar on the website...come in and ask for the May Flowers Special early but ONLY if you are purchasing for a challenge layout.

April Challenge

Are you ready for a challenge? Beginning today, we will be holding a challenge each month. This is a great opportunity for you to earn FREE $ to be used in the store. Even beginners can handle it - I guarantee!

Did you know there are other fun little holidays to celebrate in April besides April Fool's Day? No foolin'! Check out some of our new favorite April celebrations...

April 7 ~ No Housework Day (my personal favorite)

April 16 ~ International Moment of Laughter

April 17 ~ Blah! Blah! Blah! Day

April 19 ~ Husband Appreciation Day

April 22 ~ Jelly Bean Day

Don't those sound worthy of some form of celebration? And if you are celebrating it, you KNOW it is worthy of a scrapbook page! So...let's scrap!

For our April Blog Challenge, we want you to scrap your untraditional celebrations. Don't have one? Check out all the fun days over at Brownie Locks at www.brownielocks.com/april.html and pick a new holiday to celebrate every year!

To participate in this challenge, you must create an 8x8 or larger layout sharing your untraditional celebrations using the pictured sketch supplied by the lovely sketchers at http://janellerichmond.typepad.com/sketchthis. You don't have to follow the sketch completely, make it your own. We just need to be able to "see" a resemblance to the sketch.

HAPPY NATIONAL CRAFT MONTH

Did you know that March is National Craft Month? What a perfect opportunity to set aside time to celebrate. The art of crafting helps relieve stress, make memories, and bring families together. So, why not take a chance on proving to others why "scrapping" is so much fun? Join us every Saturday morning during March from 10:00 am until noon for a FREE MAKE-N-TAKE project. They are quick, they are easy and best of all, they are FREE. Bring a friend in to introduce them to your passion. Or, better yet, bring your children with you! OH NO some of you might be saying but think about it...you get them out of the house, they get to do a project and it doesn't require that you do something THEY choose.

Today, we are creating a quick and easy spring card - it is perfect for place cards to be used at Easter, a quick note to drop in your spouse's lunch box, or a Thank You to that friend who always goes out of their way!

March Teasers and CHA Pictures

With February quickly coming to an end, I thought I would give you all a teaser about what is ahead in March. Fun Fact: March is National Crafting Month! To celebrate, we will have free make-n-takes every weekend. Read the newsletter for more details...it will be on the website and in your "in" box by the end of the weekend.

What I can tell you now is that Alicia has two fabulous classes planned - cards and a clipboard altering project. Both classes will give you the chance to learn several new techniques and play with fun new products.

CHA was such a blast and I have made this really great new friend that has helped me get "into" this whole blogging idea that now I just feel the need to post a few pictures that I took at CHA. Maybe this will give you some inspiration just as it did me!
